Application for judicial review filed by the former Directors of Aveos.
Through this Application the former Directors of Aveos are trying to overturn orders to make payments to
former Aveos employees that were obtained by a federal government agency, Employment and Social

District Bulletin 36 – AIR CANADA LIFE INSURANCE COMPANY (pension)
On Friday, August 10, 2018 Air Canada announced to their employees that they would be creating a new wholly owned subsidiary, Air Canada Life Insurance Company (ACLI). ACLI will be a fully registered and regulated insurance company under the terms and conditions of all existing Canadian financial and insurance regulations and will fall under the auspices of OSFI.
The Air Canada Pension Master Trust Fund (MTF) intends to purchase group annuities from various established Canadian insurance companies. The sheer size of the MTF ($19.5 Billion as at 1/1/2018) dwarfs the ability of the Canadian annuity market to absorb such a large investment and the associated risk. Read PDF Here…

The IAMAW is pleased to see that a class action lawsuit on behalf of former Aveos employees has
been authorized to proceed by a recent decision of Québec’s Superior Court.
The Members of the Class are all ex-employees – Union and non-Union – of Air Canada’s overhaul
and maintenance centres in Montréal, Mississauga and Winnipeg who were negatively impacted by

Contract flip nets IAM new contract and new members!
Toronto, ON – The IAM has turned the tables on the latest contract flip at Toronto’s Pearson International Airport by securing voluntary certification, a new collective agreement, and new members.
Contract flipping is common practice at Pearson allowed by the Greater Toronto Airport Authority (GTAA) which normally means job loss for some of the affected workers, reduced wages and benefits for others. This contract flip involved Smarte Carte, the firm responsible for passenger baggage carts at the airport, who lost in a contract flip to Clarrion. However, instead of possibly losing their jobs or having reduced wages and benefits with the new employer, the Smarte Carte workers, members of the IAM, not only retained their jobs but their wages, benefits, seniority as well as their union, thanks to the IAM. District Bulletin 20 – AIR CANADA (ACM) STATUTORY HOLIDAY PAY SCHEDULED HOURS OF WORK ON A COMPRESSED WORK WEEK
After discussions with Senior ACM Management, the IAM has an agreement that the long standing practice of compensating members at overtime rates (1.5 x reg. hourly rate of pay) for every scheduled hour worked on a statutory holiday while on a compressed work week, will continue until further notice. Executive Board Elections will be held at our upcoming DL140 Convention being held in Halifax, Nova Scotia on Tuesday and Wednesday, October 23 and 24, 2018.
There are to be nine (9) Board Members to be elected – one (1) from “Air Transport”, one (1) from “Service” and one (1) “At-Large”, from each of the three (3) Regions. The Western Region includes British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba. The Central Region includes Ontario. The Eastern Region includes Quebec and the Atlantic Provinces.

Air Canada charged with Health & Safety Violations in death of IAM Member
Toronto, On – Federal officials have charged Air Canada with a series of health and safety violations in the death of IAM Local Lodge 2323 member Ian Henrey Pervez.
Pervez was killed on April 22, 2016 on the tarmac at Toronto’s Pearson International Airport when the baggage-cart tractor he was driving flipped over, throwing him from the vehicle. Federal officials allege five health and safety violations of Part II of the Canada Labour Code, by the airline contributed to the death of Pervez. Read the Dispatch here…
Airport privatization on hold in the wake of Machinists petition!
Ottawa, ON – On Tuesday April 17th, the IAM petition opposing airport privatization is presented in the House of Commons, then on Friday April 20th, Transport Minister Marc Garneau announces the government will not proceed with airport privatization at this time.
