District Bulletin 22 – TO ALL IAMAW MEMBERS & FORMER AVEOS MEMBERS CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT

The IAMAW is pleased to see that a class action lawsuit on behalf of former Aveos employees has
been authorized to proceed by a recent decision of Québec’s Superior Court.

The Members of the Class are all ex-employees – Union and non-Union – of Air Canada’s overhaul
and maintenance centres in Montréal, Mississauga and Winnipeg who were negatively impacted by
Aveos’ closure, their spouses, heirs and/or beneficiaries. Read Bulletin here…

Contract flip nets IAM new contract and new members!

Toronto, ON – The IAM has turned the tables on the latest contract flip at Toronto’s Pearson International Airport by securing voluntary certification, a new collective agreement, and new members.

Contract flipping is common practice at Pearson allowed by the Greater Toronto Airport Authority (GTAA) which normally means job loss for some of the affected workers, reduced wages and benefits for others. This contract flip involved Smarte Carte, the firm responsible for passenger baggage carts at the airport, who lost in a contract flip to Clarrion. However, instead of possibly losing their jobs or having reduced wages and benefits with the new employer, the Smarte Carte workers, members of the IAM, not only retained their jobs but their wages, benefits, seniority as well as their union, thanks to the IAM. MTU MAINTENANCE NEGOTIATIONS UPDATE – MAY 16, 2018

Your Negotiations Committee met with the Company on May 9, 10 and 11, 2018 for Direct Bargaining. We continued our exchange of non-monetary proposals and had dialogue on matters relating to Statutory Holidays, overtime, qualifications, seniority, sub-contracting, the grievance procedure, representational issues and Leave of Absence provisions. DISTRICT LODGE 140 EXECUTIVE BOARD ELECTIONS

Executive Board Elections will be held at our upcoming DL140 Convention being held in Halifax, Nova Scotia on Tuesday and Wednesday, October 23 and 24, 2018.

There are to be nine (9) Board Members to be elected – one (1) from “Air Transport”, one (1) from “Service” and one (1) “At-Large”, from each of the three (3) Regions. The Western Region includes British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba. The Central Region includes Ontario. The Eastern Region includes Quebec and the Atlantic Provinces.

Air Canada charged with Health & Safety Violations in death of IAM Member

Toronto, On – Federal officials have charged Air Canada with a series of health and safety violations in the death of IAM Local Lodge 2323 member Ian Henrey Pervez.

Pervez was killed on April 22, 2016 on the tarmac at Toronto’s Pearson International Airport when the baggage-cart tractor he was driving flipped over, throwing him from the vehicle. Federal officials allege five health and safety violations of Part II of the Canada Labour Code, by the airline contributed to the death of Pervez. Read the Dispatch here…

District Bulletin 05 – AIR CANADA UNIFORM UPDATE

Over the past several weeks District Lodge 140 has been in discussion with Air
Canada management regarding the new uniform allotments issued, carry over
monetary balances that have been frozen or wiped out entirely and the 2018 $170.00
allowance as per Article 20.01.02 of the Collective Agreement.
