Machinists to Lobby Canadian Parliament to Protect Pensions

January 31, 2017With more than 50 participants, the Machinist delegation will be the largest contingent involved in a Canadian Labour Congress (CLC) lobbying effort to stop Bill C 27, which would amend a longstanding pension protection law.
“Bill C-27 proposes to amend the Pensions Benefits Standards Act to allow federal employers to amend existing defined benefit pension plans to create target benefit plans in their place,” said IAM Canadian General Vice President Stan Pickthall. “This allows employers to rid themselves of legal obligations that have already been promised to retirees. This puts the risk onto retirees rather than the plan itself.”

IAM764 Women’s Committee marched in Vancouver

January 22, 2017
Members of the IAM764 Women’s Committee marched in Vancouver on Saturday in solidarity with women in Washington, DC and around the world. The Women’s March was a peaceful protest in response to the inauguration of Donald Trump. The larger than expected crowds in many cities sent a powerful signal that the hate, sexism and bigotry that characterized his campaign are not acceptable and will not be tolerated.

Rod Siegler

January 19, 2017SIEGLER, Rod Rod passed away peacefully in his home on January 08, 2017 at the young age of 51. He's survived by good friends, family, and two beloved kitty cats. We'll miss his sense of humor, sharp wit, pranks and practical jokes! Rod was an active member in the community who believed in supporting local business, respecting his neighbors, and was a passionate volunteer at the Richmond Animal Protection Society, Cat Sanctuary (RAPS). In lieu of flowers etc, we encourage donations to RAPS in memory of Rod Siegler - the kitties will be missing their freshly grown catnip and masses of treats & attention. Please join us in a celebration of life taking place at ANAF 284 in Steveston, Friday, January 27, 2017 at 2PM.
